The mudroom
As part of our renovation, we are adding a small mudroom entry—along with a half bath—to the front of the house. I am incredibly excited about this. As a self-professed neat freak wth two large dogs and a small child, a mudroom is right up my alley. Our old side entry came directly into the kitchen, right next to the gas range, and I can't tell you how many times my keys fell beneath the grates, only to be found once Joe or I fired up a burner for the evening supper.
Above you'll see one of our inspiration photos for the finished product. We love the built-in cubbies and above-head storage, and are trying to figure out which tiles to use on the floor. Durability will be key, and we're open to playing with some other cool ideas, like building in a rug on the floor (pictures courtesy of my friend Jodie, who did something like this in her own house). I'm not sure if we will end up with this or not, but I love the idea of not having a mat moving around the room all the time...you can just build this in, then pull it out for cleaning. Cool idea!
Work on the mud room has been advancing rapidly, as you can see from this photo of Tommy working on the roof.
